Back in 2017, I had the opportunity to intern for the IMPACFUND,  an organization based in Miami that advocates for the immigrants in the country, by defending them and proving that they are a big asset for our community and the vital contributions that they make to the US in all aspects. Back then, president Trump had made big declaration against the Dreamers (people in the US under DACA), alleging that he would get rid of their legal status in the US.

While interning for the organization, I was responsible of taking care of the many calls and emails that we were constantly receiving from dreamers expressing their concerns and frustrations. I was that person who directed them to the place that they needed to go, or to the person they needed to talk to. I was also in charge of organizing the different events that we were running in order to raise funds for us to be able to continue with operations and be able to better assist people. While organizing the events I also needed to contact affluent business people, since we needed them to be present in above mentioned events.

It was a really touching experience. A few tears dropped my eyes by reading or listening to so harsh stories. It was very fulfilling to know that I contributed a little bit to those people lives. One thing that I learned from its CEO, Mike Fernandez, is that once you reach stability in life with your job, you should always give back to the community as much as you can. And that is one of my life goals.
