changemaker week
During Changemaker Week, the moment that stood out the most to me, was definitely when I got to learn from so many different organizations that are based in Miami interested in helping and giving out to the community. I learned about funds that dedicated only to people in prisons, kids, homeless, etc. It was rewarding to know that that many people actually care.
decorating cupcakes with kids
After realizing that there are many opportunities to volunteer in Miami, I realized that for most of them I needed to commit for a long period of time. For that reason I joined ICEP in ISSS. An organization that allows international students as me, volunteer for many different causes and activities. In this opportunity, we joined the Miami Children's Hospital to decorate cupcakes with the kids that live there. It was truly an amazing experience. Although it was a short period of time, I feel I learned so much that day. They taught me once again how fortunate I am for being who I am and allowed me to be a little more grateful and humble.
Serving meals to homeless
This was an activity organized by ICEP from ISSS as well. Once again, I leaned how fortunate I am and how good it feels to give back to the community. With me, there were around 10 more students. I love the fact that there are more and more people willing to help and serve the ones that need it the most. That day we went to the Chapman Partnership to serve meals to the people that there reside. To my surprise, many were smiling and laughing. Again, other big lesson for me: no matter how much you have, you always have to have a great attitude towards life.
